Dear Diary,
I have decided to stick with this experiment. I have gotten so many compliments from the humans about the third voice posts and everyone wants me to start writing a book, so I have decided to do it. Today went like this:
KoonKoon gathered up the rest of the folders on his desk and walked them over to the filing bin. Bobby was out sick today so he had to do all of the filing. He sighed and began; he thoroughly detested filing. He hurried through it and it only took him a few minutes because he was so used to where everything went. He was surprised because it was a huge pile. He faxed his purchase orders and cleaned off his desk.
“Goodbye Adam”, he said on his way out the door. He stepped outside and suddenly his cute little raccoon face lit up with a huge smile. He was going bungee jumping! He was so excited and waited eagerly for Oscar to come pick him up.
“Hi KoonKoon, how was work”? Oscar asked as KoonKoon climbed in the car.
“It was alright, same as usual. I get a shipment and of course they never send all of the paperwork and then they’re on the east coast so you can’t call them till tomorrow. Then you have to do a Non-Conforming Notice, or worse, a CAPA. One of these days, paper work will be the death of me.” KoonKoon sighed and looked out the window as they approached Auntie Ephie’s house.
“Oh well, at least the work day is over, it’s Friday and we’re going bungee jumping in three hours,” Oscar said ecstatically.
“Yay, I can’t wait”, KoonKoon said as he opened the front door. “Hello”! There was no answer. “It’s me, KoonKoon you’re lovable baby nephew”, he said a bit jokingly. There was still no answer. “Yoohoo big summer blowout”, he said and was met with only more silence. Hmm he thought to himself as he headed towards Bailey’s room. The light was on; curiouser and curiouser. He knocked but there was no answer. He slowly opened the door and walked into Bailey’s room.
It reminded him a lot of mommy’s, posters everywhere of her favorite shows, books, movies, music and more.
She even had a wall of dream catchers. It made me nervous though because even though the spiders were fake, it still made me nervous that there were so many. No bad dreams for Bailey, that’s for sure.
“Hello there guys”, he said to Bailey’s pet rats, Meg and Ruby. They were so cute and KoonKoon petted them gently.
KoonKoon went into the kitchen, where he helped himself to an apple juice from the fridge, he knew Ephie wouldn’t mind.
“Where do you think-“, he started to ask Oscar. He stopped as Ephie walked into the kitchen from the back door. “Ephie, we were looking all over for you,” he said to her. He followed her over to the crockpot.
“Sorry KoonKoon, I’m running a little late. I had computer issues at work and the IT guy didn’t help me, he just left”, she responded. “But work’s over now, are you ready to go bungee jumping”?
“I’m sorry that sucks about your computer, but yes, I can’t wait”, he squeaked. “Let’s go”!
They piled in the Firebird and soon they were there. KoonKoon didn’t want to leave the car because his favorite song was on the radio. He got out listening as he moved. “… masquerading as a man with a reason, my charade is the event of the season and if claim to be a wise man, it surely means I don’t know …”
The mountain was ginormous and a little daunting but he was really excited to do this!
“Wow the whole thing”?
“Yes KoonKoon, we have to climb up three miles to the top and then we bungee”.
They climbed and climbed, looking out at the beautiful view. The air was nice and crisp, he could almost taste the freshness. The sunlight was beautiful and gave everything an ethereal glow.
They stopped to rest at the castle. KoonKoon wished he had a long blonde wig so he could take a Repunzel picture to post on Quickagram. They moved along and soon they were there. It was breathtaking, the view over the bridge was wonderful.
“Oooh”, he squealed and he ran to the bridge as fast as his little legs would allow. There were humans standing on the bridge; interesting looking humans.
“Hello humans, I am KoonKoon and I am going to bungee”, he said excitedly.
“Nice to meet you KoonKoon. My name is Benny and welcome, they call this ravine the Roadhouse. This is where you will be jumping. Jess here is going to help get you ready.”
“Jess, meet KoonKoon”, he said to the pretty blonde human nearby.
“Hi KoonKoon”, she said. Then she bent down and shook his little paw.
“Hi Jess, it’s so nice to meet you”, he said. The next thirty minutes flew by as he was explained all of the rules and safety information. Before he knew it, he was strapped into the Biggerson equipment (which took some time and a lot of adjustments, because he was so small) and he was staring down at the drop below. Suddenly he was scared and he wished mommy was there.
“It’s ok KoonKoon, it’s normal to be scared”, said the lady standing next to him. “But if you conquer that fear, you will have so much fun and if you apply that lesson to everything else in life, you will be so much stronger and the next time life throws something at you, or as in this case, you throw yourself at it; you won’t be as afraid”. The lady next to him then smiled and it lit up her face.
This lady was really wise, he thought and if he couldn’t have mommy, she seemed like the next best thing.
“What’s your name”, he asked.
“My name”? “My name is Mary.” “I have two boys of my own but because they do what I told you, they are very brave”, she said.
“Ok Mary, I will do it. I will do it for you” KoonKoon looked down and involuntary gave a loud gulp that would even surpass Shaggy and Scooby. Then he took a deep breath and he jumped off of the bridge.
It was amazing, he didn’t know if he was flying or sinking or what was going on. It was exhilarating and he loved every second of it. Every fall, every bounce. He enjoyed the rush and the thrill and all of the fear had dissipated. Even time seemed to stand still at moments and it seemed to race at others, it was well, wibbley wobbly, he mused. Sadly, before he knew it, he was back on the bridge.
“How was it KoonKoon”?
“Oh Mary, it was amazing”! “You were so right, about everything and I will always remember that lesson”. He gave her a big hug, which made her charm bracelet jingle.
They said goodbye and then headed down the mountain, talking incredulously of their experience. They were all very tired by now and they decided to end the day with a nice glass of wine so they headed down to the Colt, a local bar with some really good wine.
Tonight was amazing Diary, I absolutely loved it!
Time to go do some laundry, I must have miscalculated last time because I ran out of clothes too early. I can’t go to work without clothes Diary, that’s just madness!
Goodnight Diary Until Tomorrow,
KoonKoon The Wayward Son
