This is the fifth post (of five) in KoonKoon’s zombie apocalypse adventure. In his and his friends’ struggle to save the children of the world, both stuffed animal and human alike from the voracious zombies. There is less action in this post and again I apologize but I needed to set some stuff up 🙂

They ran back to the entrance, worried at what KoonKoon’s mom was facing outside. They reached the opening and leapt out into the darkness. They could see why she had called them. There were several zombies pushing on the chain link fence separating them from their “food”.

“Let’s get going, they shouldn’t be any trouble while they’re on the outside but I don’t want the rattling to attract any more. You remember how long it took to dispatch them all the last time. We can’t afford that again. This is our biggest source of supplies and now we know for sure that we aren’t the only ones using it.” KoonKoon’s mom said to them all.
They nodded and set off. Soon they saw the welcome sight of the old nursery. Stuffed Haven had served them well indeed. KoonKoon looked the building up and down, thinking to himself. One wouldn’t generally think to run to a plant nursery when the zombie apocalypse happens. But the lovely aroma of the flowers helps to mask the natural scent of the humans and animals that seems to draw the zombies in. Also there was lots of freshly grown fruit and vegetables that just kept on growing. There was an excessive amount of water on hand and plenty of containers to store it. After all the first thing you want to do when the apocalypse hits is collect as much water as you can in as many containers as you can. Fill up your bathtub if you have to, you never know when the water will be shut off and you have to live off of your own resources. (KoonKoon’s Zombie Apocalypse Tip #

“Okay, I know it’s late and that you are all exhausted but we really should debrief right away. I’ll have the kitchen put together some food for you and we’ll have it brought in. You did a great job today kiddos. Nambi, Bobby and our new friend here are safe because of you.” KoonKoon’s mom said. She wished she could just put them to bed and keep them away from all of this. Unfortunately that wasn’t an option and she knew they would never agree to it anyways.
“Ok but mom hold on a second”, KoonKoon said. He hobbled over and climbed up onto the table. He indicated with his paw for her to crouch down and he whispered in her ear.
She listened and stood up, nodding. “Yes KoonKoon, that is a great idea. Nambi would you mind getting our little bunny friend some warm food and some comfy jammies. You can show him to the other kids and get him introduced? I will be there as soon as we are done here”, she told Nambi. It seemed that the two of them had gotten close during their encou
nter.
“Sure, I would be glad to help! Come along Erin, I’ll show you where they hide the good food. We’ll get that little belly up to size in no time hee hee.” She said with a smile and with a la la la la la, they were off.
The rest of the gang moved to the table and sat down. Ron entered the room and Momo sat up straight. “Are we conferencing with Pinky tonight?” He asked them.
“No, she had to dispatch with a problem. She is probably taking out a zombie with that slinky of hers. Who knew that if you sharpened the metal rings of a slinky, it becomes a weapon?” Jeremy said.
“That’s why we love her!” Smiley said.
“Ok, who wants to get us started?” Ron asked.
No one volunteered. “Oi, I guess I might as well start us off”, Gromit said.
“How about someone we can actually understand”, Momo said with a grin.
“Oi shut up you. My accent happens to make me very distinguished”, Gromit retorted with a laugh.
Gromit started the tale and soon they were back in their beds all cozy and warm. The humans had found the idea of the “complications” at the other camp worrisome. But that was a conversation for another night. The group all needed some rest and without further information there wasn’t muc
h to do.
Three Weeks Later …
Things had been quiet since the encounter with Carissa and Athen. KoonKoon wondered what she was up to. She seemed very different than the girls he was used to. He hoped she was okay. As long as she wasn’t crying again. The stuffing in his tummy lurched at the thought. He didn’t like it and he didn’t know why.
“Hoth to KoonKoon … hello”, Momo said.
KoonKoon jumped at the voice, startled.
“Oh, sorry … I was just … nevermind”, he
responded.
“Are you daydreaming about sushi again, maybe we could give the poles another try. I was just saying that it is really nice how well Erin is fitting in here. He doesn’t seem as scared or even as shy anymore.”, Momo said, looking over at Erin, who was playing a game with two of the other human and animal children.
“Yeah, I am so glad to see him happy. Whatever is going on in his camp really doesn’t sound good. At least he is safe here. I wish we had a way to contact Carissa so that he could see a familiar face. Maybe she will come by on her own … or whatever”, KoonKoon said.
“Ok, let’s turn in. It’s getting late and we have an early patrol tomorrow. I wish we had another supply run scheduled, I don’t like being cooped up here. It’s been weeks”, Momo said as he climbed into his bed.
“Mom, your dad and the other humans are worried about this problem at Erin’s camp. I’m sure they’ll send us out soon”, KoonKoon said as he got into his own bed.
Momo yawned. “Yeah I’m sure you’re right buddy. Goodnight”, he said.
“Goodnight”, KoonKoon said and he was out almost before his head hit the pillow.
KoonKoon awoke to a loud noise and the sound of much commotion. Before he knew it, he was being gently shaken awake. “mooom … is that you”, he asked.
“Yes, honey it’s mommy. We have a bit of a situation here. Come with me.”, she replied.
KoonKoon knew something was very wrong because his mother hadn’t carried him in years. She took him to the front gate and set him down.
“We have a visitor. He just showed up and he refuses to talk to anyone but you”, his mother told him. “He refuses to even come in until he verifies it is you”, she added.
KoonKoon’s little heart was beating rapidly in his fluffy little chest. She opened the gate.
The first thing he noticed was the pouring rain. It hadn’t rained this hard in a long time. He strained his eyes and saw him, her, it? There was a figure in a dark hooded cloak. KoonKoon could only see his back. All he knew was it must be a stuffed animal because of his size. He didn’t know what to do or even what he felt. It was all so ominous, like something out of a movie.
“Hello, I am KoonKoon … would you like to come inside?” KoonKoon asked the cloaked figure.

The figure slowly turned around to face him. He felt a weird sensation, something like familiarity or Deja Vu. Whatever it was, he certainly thought it was weird. Was it a squirrel? Maybe a chipmunk? He didn’t have much time to wonder. The figure leapt forward and pulled out a piece of paper. He looked down at the paper and back up at KoonKoon. He did this several times. He looked like he was trying to decide something. Whatever it was, he seemed satisfied.
“KoonKoon there isn’t much time for introductions and pleasantries. Athen and Carissa are in trouble. Big trouble! I don’t know what HE will do to them this time. The rest of our camp is in danger as well. I need a spy. I need one of your friends to assimilate into my camp and help me save them.”, the strange animal said.
“I will do it -“, KoonKoon started to say.
“You are too well known there. Stories of what you did for Erin are widespread there. How do you think I knew to ask for you We have been observing you for quite some time?
“Will you help us? KoonKoon, you are our only hope”, the animal asked him intensely.

Ooohh!! The plot thickens! 😄😄👍💚💜
