KoonKoon and Momo charged forward, fueled by adrenaline and sheer determination to protect the kids, both human and animal. KoonKoon lunged at the nearest zombie’s leg, but just before his paws could make contact, he and Momo were yanked backward.

“What the heck—” he started to say as the world spun around him. He bounced off the asphalt, rolling until he could steady himself and take stock of the situation. Through blurry eyes, he made out the shape of his mom grappling with one of the zombies. Realizing she must have pulled him back to protect him, he quickly suppressed a squeak. With a swift, practiced motion, she brought down the undead creature almost immediately, leaving it flailing on the rocky ground like a turtle flipped on its shell.

KoonKoon let out a squeak as he saw a second zombie stalking toward his mom. He rushed forward, only now realizing he had no weapon or way to protect either of them.

Mom Grappling with Xombie

“No, KoonKoon, stay back! Can’t you see these are Organics?” his mom yelled, her voice laced with fear and frustration.

She knocked the second zombie to the ground with another graceful move, then bent down to dispatch both of them. KoonKoon watched in horror as a third zombie shambled towards her. He was about to disregard her warning when Ron, Momo’s father, surged toward the creature. KoonKoon watched in awe as Ron silenced it with an upward thrust. Another body lay crumpled beside it, no doubt another testament to Ron’s battle prowess.

“KoonKoon! What were you thinking?! You know you’re not supposed to take on any zombies by yourself!”

“But they could have tried to get in and eat the kids,” KoonKoon said, his voice tinged with exasperation. “We had to—”

“No, KoonKoon, you didn’t have to. I know you’re eager to prove yourself, but you’re not ready yet,” his mom interrupted.

“Okay, Mom, you’re right,” he admitted, hanging his head. “But how did you know we were outside? You can’t see or hear the Jeep from the opening.”

“You think I wouldn’t recognize your squeaks? I don’t know how I heard them, maybe it’s mommy ESP,” she joked, her mouth softening from a grimace to a slight smile.

KoonKoon heard a sigh and glanced over at Momo, noticing that he was receiving a similar lecture from Ron.

“You both need to evaluate the situation before jumping into action,” Ron said firmly, shifting his gaze to include KoonKoon in his admonishment.

“I bet you didn’t realize you were facing four Organics. You know how to spot them, the freshly dead. They couldn’t have turned more than a day ago.”

They both realized he was right; they had been reckless, even if their intentions were noble. Ron sighed, and Momo looked down, clearly feeling the weight of his father’s concern. KoonKoon’s mom, sensing the tension, decided to give Ron a moment to collect himself.

KoonKoon & Momo 2

“Come on, boys, let’s get that haul inside and get you something to eat. We were worried when you didn’t come back, but I know you two are the best scouting team we have. Let’s get you fed, and then you can debrief us on the run.”

They made their way through the side door, following a special hallway that led directly to the strategy room where all the planning and briefings took place.

“You’re back just in time, boys. We were just about to check in with the Netherlands unit; they’ve been facing an unusual amount of trouble over there.”

“Hello, California team. Are you there?” came a faint voice over the radio.

“We’re here,” his mother replied. “We ran into some unexpected trouble, but nothing we couldn’t handle. How are things on your end?”

KoonKoon noticed the team looked utterly exhausted. The bandito stood nearby, statuesque and imposing, while the Sealy Brothers, the baby seal siblings, clung to each other’s flippers for support. The Netherlands’ secret weapons were deceptively cute but dangerously fierce; anyone who opposed them never saw it coming.

Video Call

“The number of herds here has risen alarmingly, and we’re being overwhelmed by organics,” the voice continued. “I’ve spoken with Germany and Russia; they’re dealing with problems too, though not as severe as ours. We haven’t lost any fighters, so there must be survivors out there who are being turned. We’re sending out a scouting team, but it may need to be humans only.”

“KoonKoon and Momo were cornered by a herd and had to take emergency shelter. Things are definitely getting worse—we had to take out four organics just now. The boys are lucky they made it back when they did.”

“We need to get all the teams together for a conference and re-strategize. I’ll start organizing it; let’s aim for tomorrow. Be—” The voice suddenly cut off. “We’ve got to go, something’s wrong. What’s happening—?”

KoonKoon yelped as the transmission abruptly ended. “Hello, hello?!”

“I can’t get them back on,” his mother said, her voice filled with frustration.

Ron immediately called in the nearest support team to assist their friends. “The team is prepping and will start arriving within minutes. No one knows what happened, but I pray everyone is okay.”

KoonKoon’s brow furrowed with concern over his friends. He knew that while stuffed animals couldn’t turn, they rarely survived the bites. That was the only silver lining in this crisis—at least stuffed animals couldn’t turn. But given what they’d witnessed, maybe calling it a silver lining wasn’t quite right.

Momo yelped as he burst through the door, the food on his tray crashing loudly to the floor.

“Oh no!” he exclaimed. “It’s Dean’s group—they’re swarmed.”

They tore out, running towards the alley. Two zombies shuffled towards Dean, cornering him against the chainlink fence. KoonKoon’s heart thumped as an ear-piercing shriek rents the air. Cassie wasn’t faring much better. They’re heading toward a wall.

A plush stuffed animal inspired by Dean Winchester from Supernatural, wearing a small plush leather jacket, standing bravely as he is cornered by human zombies. Dean has button eyes, a determined expression, fluffy fur, and is equipped with a plush knife. The setting is a post-apocalyptic environment with subtle ruins in the background. The human zombies are realistically eerie, surrounding Dean. The atmosphere should convey tension and bravery, mixing the whimsical plushie aesthetic with the frightening presence of human zombies, highlighting Dean's courage in a dire situation.

“Hey, idiot! Yeah, over here!” KoonKoon shouted, catching the zombies’ attention. He glanced at his parents, and they exchanged a nod. They knew the plan.

Momo began rattling the chain-link fence, drawing the zombies’ attention. They were the distraction, and the zombies slowly ambled closer. Thankfully, these didn’t appear to be Organics. As their parents slipped into the throng, Momo watched the approaching zombies nervously. “Oi, you, stupid face, come on!” Momo yelled, and then they waited.
