Day 87: 2200 Hours (Post 17)

New segments are released every Wednesday

The first six posts are quite long. So now we will be releasing each chapter split into weekly segments of ~250 words (starting with post # 7).

We hope this will make reading them more practical.
Please leave some feedback, if you have any thoughts. It would make our day, thank you!

It wasn’t long after the strange animal left that the animals around them broke the circle.  The masks slowly came off to reveal an interesting mix of stuffed animals of all sizes, types and color.

“I need to speak to someone briefly.  Will you two be okay here for just a moment?” ChipChip asked them.

They nodded and ChipChip moved swiftly toward one of the stands.  Is that what they were, Ducky wondered.  They both looked around in amazement.  This was a carnival of some sorts, with games and stands and wonderful sights.  Beautiful displays, with vibrant colors.  There was nothing garish about their surroundings and she wondered how it must be to live in such splendor.

An increase in the din of murmurs around them, pulled them from their thoughts.  These animals were looking at them with a mixture of expressions and emotions.  Wide eyed and curious, nervous, pensive and some scared.  There were others that they couldn’t get a reading on either.  It was clear this mission would require a delicate paw, and a tactful wing.

“Hello –“, Momo started to say when ChipChip returned with a stoic look on his face.  His fur was mussed, as if he had been rubbing at it.

“Come with me”, he said in a low soft voice.  They gave a smile to the group in front of them, which was widely not returned.  Then with a breath of courage, they followed ChipChip into the stand he had disappeared into before.

They walked through a narrow hole that had been carved into the side.  “I am about to show you one of our biggest secrets and you must promise never to tell anyone outside of our operation.  Our very survival depends on it.  I assure you I am not being over dramatic.  Can you promise that?” He asked earnestly.

They nodded fiercely and could not have meant anything more.  “Okay then follow me.”
